STRATEGIC PROJECTS

PROJXN is grateful to everyone at Northwick Park Hospital and London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust, who we have been proud to work with since 2022.

From May 2022, PROJXN has been implementing strategic wellbeing-focused projects within the clinical and public spaces of the Trust, supporting objectives aimed at improving staff and patient experience.

The work began following a request from a senior anaesthetist seeking proposals to enhance healthcare spaces through calming visual environments and nature-based moving imagery.

Initial projects focused on staff wellbeing areas including:

  • the medical staff sleep room
  • the postgraduate common room
  • the Wolfson Lecture Theatre training facility

These installations combined slow-moving nature imagery with projection-based visual systems intended to support calmer environments for staff working within demanding clinical conditions, including irregular hours and high-pressure settings.

Following positive feedback from staff, PROJXN was invited to develop projects within additional public and clinical areas including the North West London Breast Centre and the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Edison Ward.

Within the ICU, moving-image compositions were projected onto large roller blinds within A-Bay, the unit’s largest intensive care bay. The visual environments combined nature scenery, layered imagery, and slow atmospheric movement intended to support a calmer experience for patients, visitors, and staff. At the request of patients and staff, carefully selected nature sounds and ambient meditative music were also introduced as part of the installation.

Additional projects included visual installations within ICU staff spaces.

These works also formed part of an ongoing research and development process exploring how environmental imagery, projection systems, layered visual compositions, and calming sound environments may contribute positively to healthcare settings.

In 2025, PROJXN was invited to develop a new public wellbeing installation within a disused mini-corridor near the main cafeteria and neighbouring retail facilities. The project became known as the “Wellbeing Effect Space”, also referred to as the wellbeing corridor.

The installation includes large-format photographic compositions applied directly onto glass walls using layered visual techniques developed through earlier PROJXN projects elsewhere within the Trust.

The works combine photography of:

  • the hospital’s architecture viewed from surrounding gardens among trees, foliage, and natural light
  • flowers photographed within neighbouring University of Westminster nature projects

The images were produced using multi-lens photographic techniques and blended compositions designed to create calmer and more reflective visual experiences within the public healthcare environment.

The wellbeing corridor has since expanded to include additional large-format works, a two-metre presentation banner, and further environmental installations currently in development.

PROJXN’s development of the wellbeing corridor at Northwick Park Hospital has been supported by the University of Westminster School of Arts and Brent Biennial in collaboration with the London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust.
